From sun-drenched camping holidays to snow-sure winter sports adventures; nowhere else will you find such a wide selection as with Vacansoleil. The story of Vacansoleil brings us to the summer of ’69 (the one from the song!) when the Backers family from the Netherlands decided to rent out 22 touring caravans at a campsite on the Côte d’Azur. It was the flower power era, when the caravans looked like cute tin cans. Because sun-drenched France was the only destination at the time, it didn’t take long for the new camping provider to get its name. And voila, Vacansoleil was born. A brochure was printed (a whole 4 pages thick) and the Netherlands was introduced to camping holidays where you didn’t need your own tent or caravan. At first!
In the 70s and 80s, the family business grew steadily, but in the 90s it made giant leaps. Vacansoleil developed fully equipped family tents and luxury mobile homes, and with the Vacansoleil Academy, an education for recreation staff was created. In 2000, Vacansoleil moved into a new headquarters near Eindhoven Airport and foreign branches popped up like mushrooms. Vacansoleil grew into the European market leader, and every year, 500,000 vacationers enjoy their time at more than 500 top campsites in Europe.
After the challenging years of the covid pandemic, Vacansoleil faced a difficult period. Despite the return of many bookings, the company declared bankruptcy in 2023. Fortunately maeva, the French holiday platform and part of the Pierre et Vacances-Center Parcs group, strongly believed in the history and future of Vacansoleil, and decided to acquire the brand. Soon, the sun was shining again. Vacansoleil opened a new office at Center Parcs , and under maeva's wing in Paris, we continue to do what we love most: giving you the best time of the year!
